LUCERNE FESTIVAL will involve LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI in a “staged concert” productions for young audiences next year. This will be the fourth edition of the “Young Performance” project, a production facility for innovative concert formats which not only arouse young people's enthusiasm and interest for music but also stand for a new performative and aesthetic thinking. The target group are kids up from 9 years old and adults.

Therefore we are looking for ambitious LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI who want to be part of a creative process and are willing to perform during the Summer-Festival 2017 and on a tour in spring 2018.

What is a “staged concert”?
• Musicians play and act without scores to emphasize the performative aspects of making music
• Special stage light and choreographed elements support the structure of the music

Who can apply?
• LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI with any instrument
• You should be open to new ideas, have no difficulties learning music by heart and playing without conductor
• You don’t need to have any experience in dancing or acting but should love to move and be willing to follow instructions of the choreographer

How can I apply online with a video?
• Build up a short sequence (1 minute) that includes different performing arts in a playful way: moving, playing your instrument, dancing, acting, singing, acrobatics, etc.
• Combine this sequence with a melody of your choice or an improvised piece of music. You may use your Instrument not only to play music but also as an object or prop
• Ask somebody to film it and send the Video (big files via WeTransfer) till 01 December 2016 to: j.fuchs@lucernefestival.ch

Timeline - LUCERNE FESTIVAL Young Performance
• Creation phase 1 in Lucerne: 30 March to 09 April 2017
• Creation phase 2 in Lucerne: 13 to 25 June 2017
• Final phase during and Shows LUCERNE FESTIVAL in Summer:
28 August to 10 September 2016
• Spring tour through Switzerland with 6 destinations: March/April 2018

All dates are compulsory. Make sure you are available! The working phases and performances will be paid. LUCERNE FESTIVAL also pays travel costs and per diems. Accommodation will be in host families. Please note that you can’t be part of the Academy 2017 when you are a member of the “Young Performance” ensemble – but there is no problem to apply for the 2018 Academy again

LUCERNE FESTIVAL will involve LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI in a production for young audiences next spring. We commissioned composer Mike Svoboda to write a Family Concert for small orchestra, narrator, record player, and animated film – the title is «Once Around the World». His composition will be inspired by historical shellac recordings and postcards from all over the world. We want to convey our enthusiasm for this music to young listeners up from 7 years in the form of a musical journey. Therefore we are looking for ambitious LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI who want to work with Mike Svoboda on his new piece and premiere it during the Easter-Festival 2017.

• We need 14 Instruments: 1(picc).1.1(bscl).1(cbsn).-1.1.1.0. – Perc(2) – 1.1.1.1.1

Timeline «Once Around the World»
• Period 1 in Lucerne: 06 to 10 February 2017
• Period 2 and concerts in Lucerne 04 to 09 April 2017

LUCERNE FESTIVAL will involve LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI as instrumental coaches for a music-theatre project developed with young people from the Lucerne area. This is a cooperatation with “Luzerner Theater”. The musicians are members of the “Zentralschweizer Jugendsinfonieorchester” (http://www.zjso.ch) and we want to support them with coaching workshops.

Who can apply?
• LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI who preferable live in Switzerland
• we need four instrumentalists as coaches for woodwinds, brass, high strings, low strings

Timeline
• 14. January 2017 – 13:00-18:00h (preparation with composer/conductor)
• 15. January 2017 – 09:30-13:00h and 14:00-17:00h (workshops with young musicians)
