Master Class in Conducting with Heinz Holliger

Heinz Holliger

26 August – 29 August 2014
Since it began, an integral component of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY has been the master class in conducting. The complex scores of the 20th and 21st centuries pose specific challenges not only to instrumentalists but to conductors as well. It is for this reason that the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY offers a master class in conducting each summer; in 2014 it is being led by Heinz Holliger. For more than 50 years Holliger has enjoyed a close relationship with the Festival as an oboist, conductor, and composer – a versatile musicianship that makes him ideally suited for the master class. Along with his knowledge and store of practical experience as a performer, Holliger will convey to the participants his special insights as a composer. The young conductors will be guided by Holliger and lead the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra in preparing two very different works, one by Claude Debussy and the other by Bernd Alois Zimmermann – a unique experience, too, for anyone who wishes to audit.
Tickets for a single day and passes for the whole course can be booked online at or directly at the venue before the beginning of the course at the concert ticket outlet.
